Thanksgiving Invitations

None of these fine birds seemed that interested in a Thanksgiving Day invitation. At least, they didn't hang around too long after Rob and I stopped on the road to take a few shots -- with Rob's digital SLR. I counted 18 birds. This group includes 11 of them. A second, smaller group to the left was already filing into the woods when we took this picture. And this group departed the scene moments later.

It was a lot of fun to see them, anyway. I was surprised by how big they actually are. Any of them would have made an enjoyable Thanksgiving Day guest...

Hi Fiske,

I enjoyed your "thanksgiving" turkeys. I regularly see that many turkeys at various times during the year where I live at. It surprises me how close they let me get to them before they scatter. I always they would be much more skittish. Maybe they know I carry no guns...

Just got back from Colorado. The night skies were unbelievable. That coupled with the unusual warm weather made for some great nightly viewings. Managed to climb up to Lake Ypsilon despite the constant complaining from my body. I was thinking we need to go on a reunion tour back up there but this time not stay at the Silver Saddle...:-)

A trip to Colorado would be fun, especially if we took the big Dob. I understand that where turkeys are not regularly hunted, they become more acustomed to being around people. I was surprised by how big they actually are.
